Miss Lucy Clay - Principal

Lucy is the Principal and Founder of Fancy Footwork. Miss Lucy began dancing at 2.5 years at her local dance school by Mrs Williams and was a Junior Associate of the Central School of Ballet and taught by Carole Gable. She then went on to study at the Hammond School a Vocational Ballet School in Chester. Lucy was taught by Sally Ann Naunton, Sara Neil, Walter Trevor, and Gillian Anthony.
She was then accepted onto the Royal Ballet Schools Teacher Training Course at the age of 16 and graduated in 1993 as Deputy Head Girl and was awarded the prestigious Jean Bedells prize. The course was considered to one of the best in the world for teacher training and included study in RAD ballet, Cecchetti Ballet, ISTD National, Benesh Notation, Classical Spanish, Contemporary, Music Appreciation, Anatomy, Character, Repertoire, and Pilates. Lucy also studied the Vaganova Method in her holidays.
Her teachers included Valerie Adams, Hope Keelan, Denise Winmill, Madame Ana Ricarda, Maria Fay, Valerie Sunderland, Robert Harold and Ross Mckim. During her training, she assisted Joecelyn Mather on the Royal Ballet School Junior Associate programme
Since then she taught at the Balletakademien, Goteborg, Sweden and Dance World, Bari, Italy before returning to London to study at London Contemporary Dance School where she was taught by Juliet Fisher and performed in works by emerging Choreographers. Later after teaching at Doreen Bird and freelancing for various schools, she founded Fancy Footwork.
Lucy created a Dance Programme (movement to music) for children 18 months to 3 years for Parents/Carers and their son/dau to dance together which was developed on her Nephew........now a grown man and of course a fabulous dancer! This course was the starting point for some Fancy Footwork Alumni now studying at Vocational Ballet Schools such as Elmhurst and the Royal Ballet School.
Lucy continues to study the training of Classical Ballet and gained her teaching certificate from American Ballet Theatre New York and was taught and examined by Raymond Lukas the curriculums creator and most recently she has become a RAD Silver Swans teacher..........which she loves!
Lucy is a highly qualified and experienced teacher whose expertise spans the youngest pupils through to the Senior Level training and preparing students for vocational dance training. Currently, Lucy teaches and enters students of all ages for RAD examinations as well as organising shows and events in the local community.
Alumni and students of Fancy Footwork are celebrated as young artists in Mathew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet, Studying at Central School of Ballet, Tring Performing Arts, Elmhurst and have been company members in numerous London Children’s Ballet Productions. Alumni are all over the world and are going to make a positive impact on the world.
Lucy endeavours to share her expertise, knowledge, and experience to empower and enhance the lives of the young to literally “dance through life”..................
Outside of Fancy Footwork Lucy is a Mummy with a passion for theatre, art, architecture, travel, including treks to Machu Pichu and Everest Base Camp and enjoys motorsport and spending time with family and friends.
Lucy is proud that her students and alumni are passionate about dance, have a solid technique for physical and mental wellbeing, have found their “little light” and are shining with lifelong friendships made and are kind, hard-working human beings.
